Good Reiki training shouldn't cost you thousands of dollars. The cost does not always equal the quality. It's the teacher you need to find. I've kept the cost reasonable because I can and want to. I want people to learn how to help themselves and others and pass on these natural, holistic alternatives for wellness.
I have always kept my costs down in my work as a counselor and healer because I want to help those who cannot afford the high rates out there.
It's somewhat typical in our western society to go for the gold and lose the original purpose of such things as this. For instance, TM (Transcendental Meditation) in the 60's was first taught inexpensively because the purpose was to help as many people as possible to learn a way to experience well-being. And the more people, the better for the world. Through the years, the cost now to learn TM is ridiculous. This trend is now showing with Reiki and other holistic methodologies.
My message to you is to trust your gut when choosing any teacher, counselor or mentor.
And always keep learning and growing.
